There is no question that last season, the Bruins were a 3rd period team. Tonight, we saw them revert back to their old way of play.
First period saw plenty of penalties, but no scoring. While Boston's power play still looked shaky, there is no denying that there was much improvement, but to be fair, it couldn't have looked too much worse.
The second period looks something akin to the Duck's
The 3rd period didn't start out much better, with the Bruins spending some quality time with Rask in their own zone. All was changed with Savard's goal on assists from Chara and Lucic. Shortly after, Bitz, Thornton, and Begin showed why they just may be the best fouth line in the NHL today. After powering his way to the front of the net, Bitz scored with Thornton providing a masterful screen. Begin and Hunwick both tallied assists on the play. Boston tied it up about two minutes after on a goal by Hunwick to end regulation play.
Overtime came and went, Rask and Roloson both made some key saves to bring the game to a shootout.
Wheeler went up first and scored with some impressive puck handling. Scremp answered right back and scored after a very near save by Rask. Next up, Bergeron rang one off the post and Park loosed the puck just wide. Savard found twine to get the game winner, completing the comeback.
The win wasn't all smiles and sunshine though. Wideman went down and crashed into the boards in the 2nd period. He did not return for the 3rd, no details yet, but it looks as though his wrist or shoulder could have been injured.
Despite the 3 goals, Rask had a good second NHL start with 35 saves. Bruins end their five home game streak on Monday against Colorado.
