Alexei Kovalev's mouth meets foot... agains

As if Ottawa Senators fans were not suffering enough, Alexei Kovalev basically confirmed he is just collecting a paycheck.

Kovalev signed a two-year, $10-million dollar deal with the Senators. After a rough season in Montreal, a change of scenery was thought to be best. Senators fans were getting excited about the possibility of Kovalev finding his heart and playing like he cared again...

Instead of embracing this, Kovalev acted like an ex-girlfriend who just can't let go:

“I was disappointed, I thought for sure I’d be staying here,” Kovalev told reporters at his charity golf tournament in Montreal. “I couldn’t really understand what had just happened. In the end, I took it from a business point of view. You had a chance to stay here, and you didn’t, so you just go and do the job somewhere else. But maybe somewhere in the future I’ll be back again, and get the same support.”

As if that was not bad enough, Kovalev went on to say that Ottawa was basically a last resort:

“We couldn’t get any better offer from anybody else,” said Kovalev. “Ottawa was kind of the last choice for us. If we didn’t sign, we were going to end up someplace else for one year.”

Maybe, just maybe you should have played like you cared in Montreal, eh Kovalev?

Might be a good time to hug your local Ottawa Senators fan!
