Recap: Senators Beat Out Thrashers 4-2

Ottawa continues to show us that they are going to be a force to be reckoned with this year as they have the best record in the northeast with a solid win over Atlanta.

Kovalev opened up the scoring in the first minute of game play earning him his first goal as a Senator on assists by Mike Fisher and Daniel Alfredsson. Not two minutes later, Ruutu got his first of the season, putting the Senators up 2-0 assisted by Chris Kelly and Shean Donovan. Kovalchuk and Hainsey both scored for Atlanta allowing them to go into the locker room after the first period tied up.

The Senator's game winning goal came early in the second period on a power play goal by Fisher. The power play came as a result of a interference call by Salmela. The win was only solidified later on in the 3rd period on a goal by Chris Neil.

"I don't think we showed up for this game," Kovalchuk said. Well Mr. Ilya, I beg to differ. You were very clearly at the game, but your team just didn't seem to think the first half of the first period mattered a whole lot. I certainly pity you, such talent wasting away in the south amongst the hick and the inbreds.

Peter Regin on the Senators left the game in the 3rd period with some type of upper body injury. Hopefully it wasn't too serious as the have an upcoming game tomorrow against a tough Pittsburgh Penguins team.
